“SB-2597is a critical step towards reducing human-bear conflicts, enhancing public safety and supporting humane wildlife management. Feeding bears habituates them to humans, often leading to their deaths. This bill strengthens enforcement to protect our state’s beautiful, intelligent black bears, particularly near high tourism areas surrounding the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.”
The bill passed the House with 84 in favor and only three noes. The act is now set to take effect July 1.
